Stocks retreat across the board

Greek stocks fell 1.32 percent yesterday, with across-the-board losses, in line with the retreat on European bourses. The Athens Exchange’s (ATHEX) benchmark general index closed the session at 3,268.81 points. The FTSE/ATHEX 20 blue chip index shed 1.54 percent, while the FTSE/ATHEX 40 mid-cap index sustained the smallest loss, dropping 0.29 percent. Eurobank and Piraeus Bank, two of the country’s largest lenders, both fell more than 3 percent. Buying in Alpha Bank lifted the stock 0.80 percent to 17.74 euros. Losers beat winners 138 to 77 with 53 shares remaining unchanged. Turnover reached 161 million euros versus 163 million euros in the previous session.
