Green roof unveiled at Syntagma Sq
Economy and Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis (second right) and Deputy Yiannis Papathanassiou (left) yesterday presented the ‘green roof’ on the ministry’s building in Syntagma Square. Plants that are meant to withstand all weather conditions now cover just over half of the roof’s surface area and are expected to grow and reduce the energy needs of the ministry as regards its heating and cooling, while aiding the microclimate around Syntagma Square. The surface area planted in July amounts to about 650 square meters. This is one of the first buildings in Athens to adopt the green roof scheme and serves as a pilot for all of the other Finance Ministry buildings that will follow.
