Stocks selling at slower pace

Stocks continued their decline on the local bourse yesterday, although selling proceeded at a slower rate than on Tuesday. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,010.52 points yesterday, dropping by 1.94 percent from Tuesday, but managing to close above the 2,000-point level that it had temporarily fallen below during the day. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shrank by 2.43 percent to end at 1,071.40 points. Marfin Investment Group outperformed among blue chips with a significant 10.34 percent growth, followed by OPAP (up 2.04 percent) and OTE telecom (1.61 percent). Worst off were the stocks of National Bank (down 7.72 percent), Public Power Corp (7.16 percent) and Alpha Bank (5.89 percent). Turnover was relatively low at 198.6 million euros.
