Investors await third quarter data
Investors will be looking out for more Q3 earnings figures from blue chips this week as they try to assess the impact of the global slowdown on the Greek economy and corporate profits. National Bank and OTE telecom, two of Greece’s largest companies, are scheduled to announce profit figures on Wednesday. Alpha Bank, Greece’s third largest lender, is expected to make its figures public tomorrow after the close of trade on the Athens bourse. On Friday, the Athens bourse gained 0.54 percent to 1,826.41 points, but ended the week with overall losses of 9 percent. On the other side of the Atlantic, Wall Street staged a stunning late rebound Friday, with the Dow Jones jumping more than 6 percent, due to reports president-elect Barack Obama had chosen New York Fed chief Timothy Geithner to be his treasury secretary. Geithner is seen by market experts as a suitable choice for tackling the financial crisis.
