Blue chips pull index higher

The majority of stocks posted losses in yesterday’s bourse session but the rise of blue chips offered moderate gains to the main index. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,913.52 points on Friday, growing by 0.28 percent from Thursday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 0.56 percent to end at 991.04 points. However, both the mid-cap and small-cap indices registered a decline. Outperforming other blue chips was the stock of Viohalco (up 9.80 percent), followed by Public Power Corporation (6.51 percent), EFG Eurobank (3.16 percent), Titan cement (2.76 percent) and Hellenic Postbank (2.65 percent). Worst off were the blue chips of Intralot (down 4.69 percent) and OTE telecom (2.76 percent). Turnover amounted to 160.1 million euros.
