Third-quarter jobless rate unchanged
Workers are seen at an Athens construction site in this file photo. Data released yesterday on Greece’s labor market showed the country’s unemployment rate was flat at 7.2 percent in the third quarter. The National Statistics Service said yesterday joblessness remains high among younger people, 15.6 percent for those in the 15-29 age group in the third quarter and even worse for women within this group, at 21 percent. Overall, unemployment continued to affect women more than men. In the third quarter, unemployment among the female population stood at 10.8 percent, compared with 4.7 percent for men. Economists anticipate figures will climb higher in the face of the economic slowdown.
