Small-caps gain some ground

Stocks yesterday posted a slight rebound from Monday’s main index year-low, but turnover remained at particularly low levels with the holidays approaching. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index reached 1,723.57 points yesterday, expanding by 0.69 percent since Monday’s closure. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.01 percent to 886.11 points. Small-caps showed a healthy rise of 2.10 percent. The biggest rise among blue chips was for Mytilineos (up 8.83 percent), Alpha Bank (5.78 percent), Piraeus Bank (4 percent), Hellenic Postbank (3.69 percent) and Public Power Corp. (3.45 percent). Heading southward were the stocks of OTE telecom (3.67 percent), Viohalco (2.83 percent), Motor Oil (2.17 percent) and Hellaktor (1.53 percent). Turnover reached 86.6 million euros.
