Olympic recipe to be used also for OLTH

The government is planning to follow the path of Olympic Airlines with the privatization of the Thessaloniki Port Authority’s container facilities (SEMPO), according to sources. This means that the tender will soon end without any result and the state will then open direct negotiations with interested parties so that it can select the one with the best proposal without holding another tender. After the withdrawal of Hutchinson, which had originally won the tender by offering 491 million euros, only to opt out subsequently, the other bidders left are Cosco of China and Dubai Ports. Meanwhile, the turnover of Thessaloniki Port Authority (OLTH) posted a 30 percent drop last year compared to 2007, as there was a steep decline in the port’s commercial traffic both in containers and in conventional cargo.
