Stocks retreat in thin trade

Greek stocks ended lower in a mixed session yesterday as weak blue chips offset moderate gains in mid- and small-cap stocks. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index slipped 0.29 percent to 1,763.08 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shed 0.43 percent to 898.17 points, while the mid-cap FTSE/ASE 40 index rose by 0.05 percent. Among the losers was Eurobank, which tumbled 4.26 percent to 4.94 euros, bringing its market capitalization to 2.6 billion euros. OTE telecom also lost ground, retreating 1.20 percent to close at 11.56 euros. Pharmaceutical company Alapis outperformed, adding 2.94 percent to 0.70 euros. Turnover dipped to 79 million euros, the second lowest for the year, from 80.7 million in the previous session.
