Small-caps halt slide of index

Stocks posted a fresh drop in yesterday’s session of the local bourse, but the picture of the Greek market was considerably better than that of its European peers. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index shrank to 1,729.41 points yesterday, dropping by 0.86 percent from Wednesday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 0.89 percent to close at 877.13 points. However, the small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index edged up 0.78 percent. Three blue chips posted a rise yesterday: Hellenic Petroleum gained 0.71 percent, Eurobank EFG grew by 0.42 percent and OTE telecom rose by 0.17 percent. Moving southward were Intralot (down 3.53 percent), Hellenic Postbank (2.65 percent), Hellaktor (2.51 percent) and Viohalco (2.48 percent). Turnover reached 105.4 million euros.
