Blue chips help index rebound

Stocks finally registered a rebound yesterday after seven consecutive days of losses on the Greek bourse which had seen the main index drop by 10.12 percent in total. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index expanded to 1,615.06 points yesterday, gaining 1.63 percent on Wednesday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.57 percent to close at 816.50 points. However, the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index declined by 0.28 percent. The favorable mood helped many blue chips post a rise, led by Coca-Cola Hellenic (up 6.50 percent), Marfin Investment Group (5.81 percent), OTE telecom (5.21 percent) and Eurobank EFG (3.56 percent). ATEbank dropped by 1.74 percent and National Bank lost 1.45 percent. Turnover reached 102.4 million euros.
