State and MIG put pen to paper for Olympic
The government and Marfin Investment Group yesterday signed the agreement for the sale of Olympic Airways to the group at Zappion Hall in central Athens. The ministers present spoke of a ‘landmark day in the history of Olympic.’ Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis said that ‘today is the cornerstone of this long and arduous effort that lasted 18 months. The sixth efort to privatize Olympic has been successful, unlike the previous five.’ MIG’s vice president Andreas Vgenopoulos stated that ‘we believe we have performed our duty, as it would have been inconceivable for Olympic not to exist anymore. We will make Greeks proud of Olympic once again.’ The agreement is pending approval by Parliament, which is scheduled for the next few weeks, so as to be given the force of law.
