Stocks fall on profit-taking

Greek equities fell almost 2.5 percent yesterday, as investors locked in recent gains, ending a five-session winning streak. The Athens Exchange’s (ATHEX) benchmark index fell 2.46 percent to 1,671.80 points but ended the week with overall gains of 1.45 percent. Banks tumbled 5.28 percent and the blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gave up 3.33 percent to 839.02 points. National Bank slumped 6.82 percent to 11.48 euros and Bank of Cyprus slipped 6.58 percent to 2.27 euros. Eurobank, Greece’s second-largest lender, retreated 4.52 percent to 4.22 euros. Public Power Corporation (PPC) bucked the trend, gaining 2.33 percent to 13.60 euros. Turnover reached 142 million euros versus 161 million euros in the previous session.
