Tourism exhibition opens it doors

Tourism Minister Costas Markopoulos (left) at the inauguration ceremony of a tourism exhibition in Athens yesterday. The sector is bracing for a difficult season this summer due to the international crisis, with estimates about a drop in visitor arrival figures ranging from 10 to 30 percent, according to sources. The minister said earlier this week that the government has increased campaigns promoting the country abroad by 50 percent this year in a bid to cushion the effects of the crisis that has hit two of the largest markets for Greek tourism hard: Britain and Germany. The third international exhibition on ‘Tourism and Property’ winds up tomorrow at the former Olympic Games facilities at Hellenikon, on the capital’s southern coast.
