Stocks fall on weaker banks

Greek equities fell 2.52 percent yesterday, in line with weak performances on European bourses, as investors locked in recent gains, particularly in bank shares. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index ended at 1,629.68 points, after dipping to an intra-session low of 1,618 points. Banks gave up 5.72 percent, led by National Bank, which dropped 7.67 percent to 10.60 euros. Bank of Cyprus also sustained steep losses, falling 6.17 percent to 2.13 euros. Gaming group OPAP outperformed, adding 0.25 percent to 20 euros, as did Coca-Cola Hellenic, which rose 0.25 percent to 10.38 euros. Turnover on the Athens bourse eased to 93.2 million euros from 142 million euros in the previous session.
