EKAB workers call for extra staff

Striking ambulance workers marched through the city center yesterday, demanding an increase to staff levels. Employees from the National First Aid Center (EKAB) carried banners reading ‘No more deaths due to lack of staff’ and ‘Develop EKAB across Greece’ as they marched to the Health Ministry. Last week, a 29-year-old man died after waiting three hours for an ambulance to arrive because many first-aid staff had joined a general strike. Meanwhile, workers from the Hellenic postal service (ELTA) are getting ready to launch strike action in opposition to the privatization of ELTA’s subsidiary courier company. The workers will decide on Friday when they will walk off the job in protest action that could run into the Easter period.
