A productive period for the Athens bourse
Spyros Capralos, the president and CEO of Hellenic Exchanges, the holdings group that operates the Athens bourse, addressed an economic conference in Athens yesterday. He said transaction volume in the last two months of the second quarter rose 22 percent from levels seen in 2007 to 58 million shares per day ‘making it the most productive in the history of the Athens bourse.’ Capralos said the recovery of the economy and market appeared to be a ‘one-way street’ after the reduction of interest rates to boost liquidity and fiscal measures adopted by governments. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index has gained 45 percent over the last three months, outperforming London’s FTSE 100 and Germany’s DAX indices.
