Stocks registered gains yesterday for the fifth session in succession, after recovering some early losses. Interest in mid-caps pulled the market out of a minor correction early on during the day. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index rose to 2,427.45 points yesterday, gaining 0.43 percent from Monday’s close to set a new year-high. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 0.24 percent to end at 1,261.41 points, but the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index climbed by 1.54 percent. Viohalco outperformed among blue chips with a 11.57 percent rise, followed by Titan cement (up 7.43 percent) and Mytilineos (5.88 percent). Moving southward were Piraeus Bank (down 6.59 percent), OPAP (5.36 percent) and Marfin Popular Bank (3.69 percent). Turnover reached 340.2 million euros.
