Famar gets new plant in France

Greek pharmaceutical and cosmetics group Famar has acquired one more factory abroad, the plant of American firm Johnson & Johnson in Orleans, France. The acquisition takes the total of the Marinopoulos-owned group’s plants to 12 in Greece and abroad. The agreement will apply fully from July 1, after which the total number of the group’s employees will reach 3,000, of which 1,200 will be in Greece. The 12 plants are in Greece, Italy, France and the Netherlands. Expansion to France began in 2001 when the group bought out a plant from Novartis in Orleans as well as another from Aventis Pharma, some 130 kilometers west of Paris. This new plant specializes in the production of liquid and semi-solid pharmaceutical preparations. The Greek group is already among the top three companies producing pharmaceuticals and cosmetics for third parties in Europe, serving markets such as Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Spain.
