Slight rise in Rhodes visitors this May

Tourist arrivals at Rhodes airport posted a marginal rise of 0.73 percent in May compared with the same month last year, as Civil Aviation Authority figures showed that 167,986 tourists visited the southeastern Greek island last month, up from 166,769 a year earlier. Although arrivals from the traditional markets of Germany and Britain have declined significantly, this was offset by a sharp rise in visitors from France and Scandinavian countries, many of whom no doubt intended to visit beaches like the one pictured, at Faliraki. On Zakynthos, arrivals declined in the same month by about 4.8 percent in relation to May 2008. CAA figures recorded 313 aircraft landing on the Ionian island, carrying a total of 54,988 passengers.
