Public expands in Cyprus

The retailer Public has opened its second store in Cyprus as part of plans to operate a 20-branch network by 2012 in Greece and the Balkans, it announced yesterday. The retailer, whose product range includes books, computers and games, opened a new branch in the Tiffany Shopping Mall in Limassol after having opened its first Cypriot store in Nicosia in May. The Limassol store, Public’s fifth branch, cost 2 million euros and covers 2,000 square meters. «The decision to expand into Limassol was further encouraged by the success of the existing Public store in Nicosia, which is visited by 1 million people each year, attracting 20 percent of the customers to the shopping mall,» said Public’s general manager, Robby Bourlas, in a statement. «The Tiffany Shopping Mall will bring about changes to Limassol’s retail map, accommodating 150 stores, 17 restaurants, an ice-skating and hockey rink and 1,600 parking spaces,» he added.
