Mid-caps help index move up

Mid-caps pulled the local market higher yesterday in a session that held significant fluctuations before settling on a rising course for the majority of stocks. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index expanded to 2,386.92 points yesterday, rising by 0.45 percent from Wednesday’s closure. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index rose by 0.47 percent to end up at 1,122.43 points, but the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index gained 1.82 percent. The best performance among blue chips was for Intralot (up 3.88 percent), Marfin Investment Group (2.39 percent), Hellenic Petroleum (2.39 percent) and Piraeus Bank (1.83 percent). The biggest losses were for OPAP (down 3.16 percent) and OTE telecom (1.53 percent). Turnover reached 205.3 million euros.
