Stocks up, NBG at 8-month high

Greek stocks ended higher yesterday, boosted by gains in banks, after see-sawing for most of the session between negative and positive territory. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index added 0.61 percent to reach 2,401.57 points, bringing gains since the start of the year to 34 percent. Index heavyweight National Bank of Greece (NBG) outperformed, rising 1.84 percent to 20.98 euros, an eight-month high. Alpha Bank gained 2.82 percent reaching 9.10 euros, while blue-chip peer OTE Telecom advanced 2.24 percent, to 11.88 euros. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index rose 0.66 percent to end up at 1,230.45 points and the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index inched ahead 0.19 percent. Turnover reached 186.7 million euros versus 205 million euros in the previous session.
