New OA to boost tourism

The acquisition of Olym-pic Airlines by Marfin Investment Group (MIG) will provide a boost to the country’s tourism prospects, the company said yesterday. «The operation of Olym-pic Air from October will enhance the outlook for Greek tourism, offering high-quality services,» MIG President Andreas Vgeno-poulos told a gathering of tour operators and travel offices. «Our goal is to create a new airline that will combine the glamour of the past with modern technology in air travel,» he highlighted. MIG announced earlier this week that its subsidiary bought eight Q400 aircraft from Bombardier for $224 million (161.5 million euros), with an option to acquire eight more to bring the contract to $468 million (337 million euros) for Olympic Air. The initial order includes five Q400 NextGen airliners, while the additional eight options are all for NextGen planes. Olympic Airlines will be flying as Olympic Air as of October 1.
