Stocks recover from decline
Stocks returned to upward motion yesterday after a significant slump on Monday. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index moved higher to 2,167.25 points yesterday, rising by 1.11 percent from Monday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index increased by 1.12 percent to end up at 1,108.20 points. The biggest growth among blue chips was for Public Power Corporation (up 5.19 percent), Mytilineos (3.78 percent), OTE telecom (3.04 percent) and Hellaktor (2.69 percent). The worst losses were for Marfin Investment Group (down 2.58 percent) and Motor Oil (1.46 percent). Alapis shares rose 4.95 percent amid rumors its owner is about to take over the newspaper Eleftheros Typos, which announced its closure on Monday. Turnover reached 173 million euros.
