Energy stocks fuel rise in main index

The positive climate on international bourses also spurred the Greek market yesterday, securing gains for many stocks and particularly for energy blue chips. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index moved up to 2,236.98 points yesterday, rising by 1.22 percent from Monday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index increased by 0.97 percent to end at 1,135.42 points. Posting the biggest gains among blue chips yesterday were the stocks of Public Power Corporation (up 6.80 percent), Hellenic Petroleum (5.95 percent), Hellaktor (5.07 percent), EFG Eurobank (4.67 percent) and Bank of Cyprus (4.22 percent). The greatest losses were for Alpha Bank (down 2.31 percent) and National Bank (2.27 percent). Turnover reached 186.2 million euros.
