Shares slide but hold 2,100 pts

Greek stocks fell 2.53 percent yesterday on widespread losses but the benchmark general index managed to hold on to the 2,100-point support level. The benchmark general index ended at 2,106.13 points, after dipping to 2,099.57 points in intrasession trade, racking up losses of 4.73 percent for the week. Blue chips Public Power Corporation (PPC) and Hellenic Postbank (TT) showed steep losses, each falling 4.91 percent and 5.80 percent respectively. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index fell 2.57 percent to 1,060.95 points. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index gave up 2.79 percent while the small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index retreated 3.31 percent. Turnover rose to 201.2 million euros versus 114.4 million in the previous session.
