Summer price cuts to exceed 50 percent

Shoppers check out offers in shop windows as the summer sales are set to begin tomorrow across Greece. The Development Ministry has announced that the sales will last until August 31. After a few weeks of offers by shops, allowed for the first time by the ministry in order to boost the market, the discounts to be offered are likely to exceed 50 percent, according to a statement by the Piraeus Traders’ Association yesterday. It added that the sales are a final opportunity for the market in the midst of the protracted economic crisis. The ministry’s general secretary for consumers, Yiannis Economou, warned shoppers to buy carefully after making the essential comparisons, keeping their family budget in mind and without excessive use of credit cards.
