Moderate rise helped by banks

The rise continued yesterday on the Greek bourse, though not on the scale seen in other European markets or in the local one on Tuesday, as OPAP and OTE headed southward. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index rose to 2,185.47 points yesterday, growing by 0.74 percent from Tuesday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index increased by 1.15 percent to end at 1,116.89 points, while small-caps saw their FTSE/ATHEX 80 index gain 1.63 percent. Once again banks received the most investor interest, with EFG Eurobank rising by 7.02 percent, Piraeus Bank climbing 4.79 percent and Alpha Bank expanding by 3.77 percent. The biggest losses were for OPAP (down 6.57 percent) and OTE telecom (3.35 percent). Turnover reached 229.7 million euros, practically on a par with Tuesday’s 231.9 million euros.
