Subsidies plan for freelancers

Economy and Finance Minister Yiannis Papathanassiou announced yesterday a plan for the ministry to provide total subsidies of 250 million euros for freelance professionals, after a meeting with their representatives. The subsidies concern the renewal of the equipment (hardware and software) for doctors, dentists, lawyers, engineers, accountants, notaries, economists and financial consultants, and the subsidy rate could cover up to 80 percent of the proposal submitted by those interested. The proposals will be state-funded by 80 percent when submitted by professionals who have been in the job up to five years, while those in the profession over five years will be entitled to a subsidy rate of 50 percent. The deadline for the proposals to be completed is four months from the date of approval. In order to qualify for the program, freelancers will have to be active in their profession and have entered it before January 1, 2009.
