Merchant Marine Minister Anastassis Papaligouras (c) looks on as the chief of the coast guard, Vice Admiral Theodoros Rentzeperis (l), and Director-General of the Russian Register Nikolay A. Reshetov sign a bilateral agreement that promotes the two countries’ shipping relations. Under the agreement, the Greek authority authorizes the Russian organization to conduct inspections and issue the necessary certificates for ships and companies in the context of international treaties, as well as European and national legislation on ship safety and the protection of the marine environment. The agreement, signed yesterday in Athens, ‘is in line with our desire for the development of free and healthy competition,’ Papaligouras said.
