Index slides on blue chip drop

A sleepy session with low turnover on the Greek bourse saw most stocks move higher, although blue chips ended lower. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index dropped to 2,276.18 points yesterday, declining by 0.44 percent from Tuesday’s close. However, during the day, it had posted growth of 0.73 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.85 percent to end at 1,167.81 points. Small-caps, on the other hand, saw their FTSE/ATHEX 80 index rise by 1.32 percent. The greatest increase for blue chips was for Hellaktor (up 2.07 percent), followed by Public Power Corporation (2.01 percent) and Coca-Cola HBC (1.47 percent). Heading lower were the blue chips of EFG Eurobank (down 3.41 percent), Viohalco (3 percent) and National Bank (2.59 percent). Turnover reached just 102.9 million euros, from Tuesday’s 148 million.
