Investors have eye on Q2 profit figures

Second-quarter profit figures are likely to shape market sentiment this week, with OTE telecom among the blue chips scheduled to unveil earnings data. OTE telecom will report profit figures on Thursday, along with blue chip peer Coca-Cola HBC. Metals group Mytilineos Holdings is expected to report earnings data on Wednesday. Last week, Frigoglass, the world’s largest maker of drinks refrigeration equipment, unveiled a second-quarter net income of 5.6 million euros, falling short of market expectations. On Friday, the Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 2,362.35 points, rising by 0.39 percent. European stocks closed slightly lower Friday amid end-of-month profit-taking but Wall Street eked out modest gains on news that the US economy contracted by less than expected in the second quarter. In Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares closed down 0.5 percent at 4,608.36, while Germany’s DAX fell 0.5 percent, to 5,332.14.
