Stocks advance 0.42 percent

Buying in banks helped to push Greek stocks higher yesterday, as the benchmark general index reversed mid-session losses to end in positive territory. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index added 0.42 percent to 2,434.02 points, after dipping to an intra-session low of 2,412 points, despite weak performances on major European bourses. Banks advanced 1.20 percent, boosted by a 2.91 percent rise in Piraeus Bank to 8.84 euros. National Bank ended unchanged at 21 euros. OTE telecom underperformed, dipping 2 percent to 10.78 euros. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index increased 0.84 percent to 1,263.31 points. Turnover reached 214.9 million euros versus 263 million in the previous session.
