Stocks retreat on late selling

Greek stocks ended 1.80 percent lower yesterday, as late-session selling resulted in across-the-board losses. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index ended the session at 2,390.24 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index retreated 1.56 percent to 1,243.61 points. Pharmaceutical company Alapis slumped 16.19 percent to 0.88 percent. Coca-Cola Hellenic, scheduled to unveil first-half figures today before the market opens, fell 2.75 percent to 15.90 euros. Bank of Piraeus and OTE telecom ranked among the winners, advancing 1.24 and 1.21 percent respectively. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index slipped 2.63 percent, while small-caps on the FTSE/ATHEX 80 index shed 1.48 percent. Turnover reached 189.6 million euros versus 214.9 million euros previously.
