Surprise visit to Myconos club uncovers tax cheats

As the government cracks down on tax cheats to boost budget revenues, the popular island of Myconos has been targeted by Finance Ministry inspectors during its busiest time of year. An audit of one of the island’s well-known nightspots on a recent summer night showed zero revenue had been declared by the owners who claimed 350 customers were on the premises for the purposes of a promotional event. However, a surprise visit to the nightspot by officials from the Special Audit Service (YPEE) revealed that more than 1,500 patrons on site had spent in excess of 700,000 euros while having a good time. Checks on the island are continuing.
