Mobile phone costs among OECD’s most expensive

Mobile phone calls in Greece are the eighth most expensive on the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) list of 30 member states. The OECD said in a report that medium usage in Greece costs an average of $400.82 per year, well above the OECD average of $317.77. Comparing prices on a medium-use basis for a package of 780 voice calls, 600 short texts (SMS) and eight multimedia (MMS) messages, the survey found monthly prices as of August 2008 ranged from $11 to $53 across countries, the Paris-based organization said in a statement. The most expensive mobile phone costs are in the United States, where medium usage costs $635 per year, followed by Spain and Canada. The cheapest charges are in the Netherlands and Finland where mobile phone users part with an average of $131 per year.
