Fire-stricken employees protected

A man attends to his home that was burnt in the fires that swept through acres of forest near Athens over the weekend. The Employment and Social Security Ministry said yesterday that private and public sector employers are obligated to pay employees unable to attend work today due to the wildfires. No casualties had been reported late yesterday and no tally of property damage has been made available. On the environmental front, the destruction of forest, farm land and olive groves has been described as a disaster that will affect the microclimate of the Athens region.
