Stocks break winning run

Greek stocks closed marginally in the red yesterday, ending a seven-session winning streak, due to soft mid- and small-cap shares. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index eased 0.05 percent to 2,544.45 points after moving between positive and negative territory during the session. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index closed unchanged at 1,354.48 points. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 and small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 indices eased 0.50 percent and 1.20 percent respectively. Alpha Bank extended its recent gains, jumping 2.83 percent to 12.34 euros after reporting stronger-than-expected first-half earnings earlier this week while peer Eurobank eased 1.37 percent to 10.82 euros. Turnover reached 306.8 million euros versus 300 million in the previous session.
