Provopoulos meets with PM ahead of TIF

Bank of Greece Governor Giorgos Provopoulos is shown after a meeting with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis yesterday. The head of the central bank said he had informed Karamanlis about the course of the economy ahead of the prime minister’s scheduled speech on Saturday at the Thessaloniki International Fair. Karamanlis has been meeting with employer and employee groups during the week as he puts his final touches on Saturday’s speech. Worker groups have scheduled demonstrations in Thessaloniki this weekend, in protest at the government’s economic policy. The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), Greece’s largest private sector labor group, and civil servants’ union ADEDY have announced they will demonstrate on Saturday.
