Lenders, media lead advance

Greek equities jumped nearly 3 percent yesterday on across-the-board gains to end just short of the 2,500-point mark. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index advanced 2.97 percent to 2,497.15 points, outpacing gains of around 1 percent posted by major European peers. The blue-chip FTSE ATHEX 20 index gained 3.45 percent to 1,323.73 points. Banks rose 4.2 percent. Bank of Cyprus jumped 5.81 percent to 4.92 euros and Marfin Popular Bank closed at 2.48 euros, up 5.08 percent. Media shares continued to shine, adding almost 26 percent. Publisher DOL soared 26.8 percent to 3.40 euros, bringing gains in the last week to 81 percent. Turnover reached 163.7 million euros versus 194 million previously.
