Kalamata city center to get Wi-Fi network

With computers increasingly becoming an integral part of urban life, as seen in this file photo, the center of the city of Kalamata, in the Peloponnese, is set to obtain a pioneering wireless broadband Internet connection (Wi-Fi) network of 20 points, Intrakat announced yesterday. The Athens-listed firm signed a contract yesterday to undertake the development of a ‘smart’ neighborhood in the southern city, budgeted at 2 million euros in cooperation with the Peloponnese regional authority. The project relies on cable and wireless broadband connectivity, linking 254 buildings in a fiberoptic network, amounting to at least 330 connections. The project is the sole ‘Fiber to the Home’ project currently under way in Greece.
