Index breaks record for 2009

The main index of the local bourse ended the week at its highest point of the year yesterday, thanks to the growth of its stock with the highest capitalization, National Bank, and the positive week foreign markets enjoyed. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index reached 2,555.37 points yesterday, growing by 0.31 percent over Thursday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index increased by 0.30 percent to end at 1,338.57 points. Small-caps also outperformed, with their index rising 0.51 percent. The biggest gains among blue chips were for Marfin Popular Bank (up 2.01 percent), Bank of Cyprus (1.82 percent), Coca-Cola HBC (1.5 percent), National Bank (1.31 percent) and Titan cement (1.21 percent). Worst off were the stocks of EFG Eurobank (down 4.06 percent) and Intralot (1.43 percent). Turnover reached 200.6 million euros.
