Stocks end lower on late selling

Late-session selling dragged Greek stocks into negative territory yesterday, as losses on European markets prompted light profit-taking, ending a three-session winning streak. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index inched 0.23 percent lower to 2,661.42 points after reaching an intra-session high of 2,697 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index eased 0.46 percent to 1,414.60 points. Marfin Popular Bank tumbled 5.23 percent to 2.90 euros and Hellenic Postbank retreated 2.04 percent to 4.80 euros. The FTSE/ATHEX bank index, which has added 11.26 percent over the last month, eased 0.50 percent yesterday. Turnover reached 311.6 million euros versus 352 million in the previous session.
