Workers keep up protest against Cosco

Striking dockworkers at the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) have hung a banner reading ‘Cosco go home’ in opposition to the privatization of the cargo management services at the country’s largest port. Workers have walked off the job through Tuesday after China’s Cosco Pacific formally took over the management of two container terminals at OLP on Thursday. Employees have called for a ‘freeze’ on the deal, due to concerns about some 600 employees being transferred from the state-owned port to Cosco. Socialist PASOK, which is leading the conservatives in the polls, has said it will renegotiate the contract with the Chinese company if elected tomorrow.
