Fresh year-high on bank rally

Greek stocks climbed to a new year-high yesterday, adding 3.77 percent, as banks rallied, supported by advancing international equity markets. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index ended at 2,678.50 points, close to the session high of 2,685 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 4.52 percent to 1,425.86 points. Banks soared 5.57 percent. National Bank shot up 6.43 percent to 24.50 euros, pushing its market capitalization to 14.8 billion euros. Eurobank, the country’s second-largest lender, ended up 7.71 percent at 10.90 euros, while peer Proton also outperformed, adding 11.83 percent to 1.89 euros. Turnover reached 308.2 million euros versus 225.3 million euros in the previous session.
