Equities reach fresh year-high

Stocks on the Greek bourse continued their rise yesterday with the main index climbing to a new year-high, although gains subsided somewhat toward the end of the session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index climbed to 2,692.42 points yesterday, gaining 0.52 percent from Tuesday’s close at 2,678.50 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index went up by 0.21 percent to close at 1,428.89 points. The pressure on the blue chips of National Bank and OPAP moderated the rise of the general index that during the day had even surpassed 2,727 points. National declined by 1.31 percent, and OPAP by 2.07 percent, while Titan cement grew by 6.31 percent, Alpha bank gained 3.12 percent and Piraeus Bank rose by 1.22 percent. Turnover amounted to 287.9 million euros.
