EBEA calls on minister to help end Piraeus port strike

The strike by Piraeus Port Authority employees continues for a seventh day today and is likely to carry on into next week, as the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA) called on new Economy Minister Louka Katseli to intervene. EBEA head Constantinos Michalos urged Katseli yesterday to call for a detailed discussion on the «major problem» created by the industrial action by port workers at Piraeus that is affecting the market’s operation. The employees are protesting the previous government’s concession of Piraeus port’s container station to Chinese company Cosco and demanding the annulment of the relevant contract.
