Fresh rise on imported news

The surprisingly high profits announced by JP Morgan provided a boost to European markets, with the Greek bourse floating along with the tide once again. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index grew to 2,896.91 points yesterday, gaining 3.17 percent from Tuesday’s close at 2,807.89 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index rose by 3.69 percent to end at 1,559.09 points. The rise of the general index since the start of the year has reached 62.15 percent and has virtually doubled from the lows of last March, when it dipped to 1,469.41 points. All blue chips ended the day with gains, led by EFG Eurobank (up 7.62 percent), ATEbank (6.47 percent), National Bank (5.03 percent) and Intralot (4.77 percent). Turnover increased to 437 million euros, up from Tuesday’s 351 million euros.
