Stocks climb nearly 1 percent
Greek stocks added almost 1 percent yesterday as banks outperformed, supported by advancing European peers. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index gained 0.96 percent to 2,838.13 points, trimming losses for the week to 2.86 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index firmed 1.12 percent to 1,520.51 points. Banks jumped 1.69 percent. Eurobank added 2.56 percent to 12 euros and peer Alpha moved ahead 3.65 percent to 14.20 euros. Hellenic Exchanges, the operator of the Athens bourse, also outperformed, gaining 3.54 percent to 10.25 euros. The small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index slipped 1.19 percent. Turnover eased to 195 million euros versus 217 million in the previous session.
